Warの代表的初期作であり、タイトル通り都市の現実をテーマにした作品である。ホーンセクションとパーカッションが織りなす多層的なグルーヴは、社会性を帯びながらも明るく包容力がある。即興的な要素が多く、ジャム的展開が自然な呼吸感を生む。黒人音楽の根底にある共同体意識とスピリチュアルな側面を表現し、ファンク・ソウルの多様性を示した。
