Produced by Joe Withert, the album features a fusion of pop/rock and blue-eyed soul. The album peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 200.
Notable features include session musicians who would later form ToTo, particularly Steve Lukather. The diverse sound, incorporating horn and string arrangements, continues the tradition of the previous album, "Silk Degrees," while presenting a more mature soundscape, showcasing the deepening of Scaggs's vocals and playing. The intense performances of Jeff Porcaro, who played drums on this album, are particularly noteworthy, particularly on "Gimme the Goods."
